Welcome to our Hand Conditions Guide, a resource for insights into prevalent orthopaedic issues affecting hand health. Our specialised orthopaedic team focuses on solutions for conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Trigger Finger, De Quervain's Tenosynovitis, Arthritis of the hand and wrist, Ganglion Cysts, Dupuytren's Contracture, Cubital Tunnel and Tennis Elbow.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome arises from the compression of the median nerve in the wrist, leading to hand numbness and tingling. Surgical relief often involves carpal tunnel release, a minimally invasive procedure aimed at alleviating pressure on the nerve.
Trigger Finger
Trigger Finger is characterised by constricted flexor tendon sheaths, which results in impaired finger movement and a snapping or locking sensation. Surgical treatment involves a release of the tendon sheath, allowing for smooth finger mobility.
De Quervains Tenosynovitis
De Quervain's Tenosynovitis manifests as inflammation at the base of the thumb, causing pain and swelling. Surgical treatment addresses this condition through a release of the affected tendon sheath.
Arthritis of the hand or wrist
Arthritis in hand and wrist joints may result in debilitating pain and reduced functionality. Surgical options, such as fusion, excision of arthritic bone, or joint replacement may be considered in severe cases.
Ganglion Cysts
Ganglion Cysts are fluid-filled lumps on the hand or wrist and are surgically managed through excision procedures. This surgical intervention aims to remove the cyst. By eliminating ganglion cysts through surgical means, patients may experience relief from pain and discomfort associated with the condition.
Dupuytren's Contracture
Dupuytren's Contracture is characterised by tissue thickening in the palm leading to finger contractures. it can be managed through surgical intervention if the contracture is severe enough. Procedures such as fasciotomy or fasciectomy aim to release the tightened tissue, restoring finger mobility.
Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
Cubital Tunnel Syndrome is characterised by numbness or tingling in the ring and small fingers. It can be effectively managed through surgical interventions like ulnar nerve decompression if the symptoms are severe enough. This procedure aims to relieve pressure on the ulnar nerve.
Tennis Elbow / Lateral Epicondylitis
Tennis Elbow, or Lateral Epicondylitis, involves inflamed tendons on the outer elbow, causing pain and reduced grip strength. The surgical procedure aims to alleviate tension on the affected tendons and reduce the inflammatory process.
