LOWER LIMB ROBOTIC SURGERY

Utilising technology to incorporate a patient-specific 3-D model for preoperative planning, we employ robotic-assisted techniques for knee and hip replacements and partial (unicompartmental) knee replacements when indicated.

Total hip

Robotic total hip replacement

Utilising robotic technology, Dr. Cleary incorporates a patient-specific 3-D model for preoperative planning in robotic total hip replacement procedures. The robotic arm is guided during surgery based on the personalised plan, facilitating the removal of arthritic bone while preserving healthy bone and soft tissue.

This guidance system contributes to the positioning of the implant in accordance with the patient's specific anatomy.

Preceding the surgical intervention, a comprehensive CT scan of the hip is conducted, generating a detailed 3D virtual model that serves as the foundation for procedural planning and execution.

Robotic total knee replacement

Prior to surgery, a CT scan generates a 3D virtual model of the osteoarthritic knee, loaded into the robotic system for a personalised pre-operative virtual total knee replacement. In the operating room, Dr Cleary maps the knee's anatomy capturing data for the robotic unit.

Stress measurements of the knee in various positions are fed into the robot. Dr Cleary adjusts the knee replacement components for optimal soft tissue balancing, modifying the surgical plan based on real-time details.

The robotic arm is then employed for the bone cuts, eliminating the need for traditional guides.

Partial knee

Robotic partial knee replacement

Robotic surgery can be applied to partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement, a procedure designed to alleviate pain stemming from joint degeneration in one compartment of the knee due to osteoarthritis.

The process of CT acquisition and pre-operative planning is the same as that of a total knee replacement. However, a smaller cut is made on the front of the knee compared to a total knee replacement.

Dr Cleary maps the knee's anatomy capturing data for the robotic unit. Then stress measurements of the knee in various positions are captured by the robot. Dr Cleary adjusts the unicompartmental knee replacement components virtually for optimal soft tissue balancing, modifying the surgical plan based on real-time details intraoperatively. The robotic arm is then employed for the bone cuts, eliminating the need for traditional guides.
